Each November, we observe National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month - a time to honor individuals living with Alzheimer’s and to support the families and caregivers who walk beside them every day. Declared by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, this month shines a light on a condition that affects more than 6 million Americans, reminding us of the importance of compassion, education, and planning ahead.

Understanding Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, gradually impacting memory, reasoning, and daily functioning. While it can be a difficult diagnosis, early awareness allows families to make thoughtful decisions about care, support, and living arrangements that ensure safety, comfort, and dignity.

The Importance of Planning Ahead

For many families, an Alzheimer’s diagnosis brings questions about the future—especially when it comes to housing and lifestyle needs. Some individuals may wish to downsize to a more manageable home, move closer to family, or transition into a supportive senior living environment. Planning these changes early can help reduce stress later and make the process more positive for everyone involved.

Supporting Caregivers

November is also National Family Caregivers Month, recognizing the millions of people who provide care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and other age-related conditions. Caregivers often carry a heavy emotional and physical load, and having professional guidance—whether from healthcare providers, senior advisors, or real estate professionals—can make a meaningful difference.

How I Help Seniors and Their Families

As a real estate professional specializing in senior transitions, I understand the unique challenges that come with downsizing or relocating later in life—especially when memory care or accessibility becomes a concern. My goal is to make each step of the process simple, compassionate, and stress-free by providing:

  • Guidance in finding safe, comfortable, and accessible housing options

  • Support in selling a longtime family home with care and respect for memories

  • Coordination with family members, legal advisors, and care professionals

  • Resources for senior living communities and local Alzheimer’s support services

Whether you’re preparing for a future move or managing an urgent transition, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Ways to Get Involved This Month

Here are a few ways to show your support during Alzheimer’s Awareness Month:

  • Wear purple to spread awareness and start conversations.

  • Donate to Alzheimer’s research or local caregiver support programs.

  • Attend a community event focused on dementia education or caregiving.

  • Check in on an elderly neighbor or caregiver who might need encouragement.

Moving Forward with Hope

While Alzheimer’s presents real challenges, it also reminds us of the power of community, empathy, and preparation. Together, we can make aging transitions smoother, safer, and filled with understanding.

If you or someone you love is considering downsizing, selling a home, or exploring senior living options, I’m here to help with care, patience, and expertise—every step of the way.
